LMC Track & Field Earns 13 Top-10 Finishes at Mountaineer Open


BOONE, N.C. --- Lees-McRae senior pole vaulter Evan Webb won an individual title while 13 LMC student-athletes earned top-10 finishes at the Mountaineer Open over the weekend at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C.

Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) claimed the title when he cleared 15 feet, 2.25 inches to pace the field.

Freshman Erin Bingham (Jefferson, N.C.) continued her impressive freshman campaign with a third-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 seconds. She shaved .05 off of her qualifying time while Southern Wesleyan’s Jessica Maggio earned the win.

Sophomore Devante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.) cruised to a top-10 finish when he claimed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.25. Junior Joshua Soto matched his Bobcat teammate with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a blistering time of 23.43.

Moyock, N.C. representatives Rachelle Cleveland and Kayla Powell notched top-10 finishes while finishing fourth and eighth, respectively, with throws of 36-02.25 and 33-11.25 in the women’s shot put.

Powell grabbed 10th in the weight throw with a heave of 32-08.50.

On the men’s side, Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) and Joshua Godwin (Pleasant Grove, N.C.) finished 4th and 10th, respectively, with throws of 39-09.75 and 32-04.25 in the men’s weight toss.

Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) shined when she finished tied for second with a jump of 05-01.75 in the women's high jump. Senior Persephanie McRae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued to improve this season by clearing 4-11.75 to earn an 8th-place finish.

Freshman counterpart Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a clip of 2:05.48.

Jasper, Ga., native Tyler Dunn scorched his next closest competitor by 15.16 seconds while notching a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:32.54.

The quartet of Razhede Highsmith (Gastonia, N.C.), Charles Coleman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Scott and Soto finished third in the men’s 4x300 with a time of 2:35.99.

The Bobcat squads return to action next Friday when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to participate in the UCS Invitational.
