This Week: Race at the Eye Opener meets in Spartanburg, NC
Both the men and women began the 2006 campaign at the Covered Bridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State, September 1. "We had so many freshmen running in their first collegiate race, so it was difficult to know what to expect, but I thought they handled the weather, competition and the distance really good," said Head Coach Craig McPhail. For the women freshman Dana Lindholm's time of 20:00 was the fastest of any Division II runner. The men were Jon Bernal and Chris Holstein, another pair of freshman ran strong races with times of 28:38 and 28:40 respectively. Matt Barrett and Sebron Jessup both recorded personal bests racing on the rain soaked course. The Bobcats will look to have another strong weekend of racing at the Eye Opener meet this weekend.

The Bobcats had a strong performance at the Laker Shootout winning the title after beating the host Lakers, ranked 8th in the nation, as they came from behind from an early 2-0 deficit. The Bobcats then beat North Georgia 4-1 to return to Banner Elk with 3-0-1 season record. Their impressive weekend earned the Bobcats a #13 ranking in the NSCAA/Adidas Coaching Poll. The Bobcats will look to continue their winning ways when they host #4 Lander University Thursday and open their conference schedule hosting Anderson University Saturday.

The Lady Bobcats dropped a 4-0 contest to Lenoir Rhyne, struggling to create any scoring opportunities and find the back of the net. The team rebounded putting up a 5-0 win over Louisburg before opening the conference schedule with a 7-3 win over Converse. Heather Klaus led the Lady Bobcats over the weekend with five goals, including four consecutive and the game winner in the game against Converse. The Lady Bobcats will hit the road for a pair of games at the Sailfish Classic this weekend playing the hosts Palm Beach Atlantic as well as Warner Southern.
