BANNER ELK, N.C. --- In this week's episode of "Minute with Mac," Coach Mac featured the Lees-McRae College men's golf program. This is a behind the scenes look at the program and some of the local talent that make up this record setting team.
Also in this week's episode, Mac tied in the rich golf heritage of Banner Elk, N.C. with that of Augusta National in southern Georgia. Mac mentioned course design and history, as well as current Augusta National Superintendent Brad Owen and his tie to the Banner Elk community.
Continuing our theme, current Lees-McRae faculty member Laura Padgett's father, George Cooke, shares a tie to the famed Masters course. Cooke spent 32 years as the superintendent at the historic Linville Golf Club and it was during his time at Linville that Augusta National general manager Clifford Roberts visited the old course, taking back design ideas with him to Magnolia Lane.
