Bobcats Men's Volleyball Tabbed Fifth in Conference Carolina Coaches' Poll

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae men’s volleyball team was tabbed to finish fifth in the Conference Carolina coaches’ poll for the 2014 season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

The Bobcats return second-team all-conference representative Efrain Negron and third-team all-conference member Randy Ramirez. Negron finished third in the conference in digs last season (237) while Ramirez was fifth in service aces per set (0.31).

Coach Dave Schmidlin returns 10 players from the 2013 campaign while welcoming in six freshmen.  The squad consists of six seniors and two sophomores as well.

LMC finished third last season with an 18-13 overall record while producing a 10-6 record in conference play. The Bobcats proved tough at home while sporting a 12-1 mark.

Mount Olive received five of the eight possible first place votes to earn the top spot in the poll while Pfeiffer was tabbed second with 36 points. Limestone and Erskine earned a first-place vote each and tied for third with 35 points.

LMC earned the fifth slot with 22 points while Belmont Abbey (20), King (18) and Barton (11) rounded out the poll.

The Bobcats have an active January while playing in six matches in 14 days, including a conference bout with Belmont Abbey Jan. 24.

LMC will host 10 matches this season while playing 17 on the road.

The Bobcats open the season this weekend when they visit Ohio State Friday before heading to Cincinnati, Ohio to battle Mount St. Joseph Saturday.
