The Lees-McRae Cycling Team traveled to ETSU for their second conference race of the season. The weekend races included regular mountain bike events of cross country and short track, but also was the first race for the gravity team with downhill and dual slalom events. Saturday morning started out with the downhill, where two freshman riders lead the way with PJ Post clipping PJ Noto by less than 1 second. Aaron Bradford rode extremely well also to come home in fourth place. In the women's race Mo Hein took first place and Olivia Maury finished in fourth. Saturday afternoon was a time trial with Mo once again winning the women's event and Wes Shirey winning the men's event.
Saturday evening brought the Short track race and total
domination from the Cycling Bobcats. With Scott Stewart and Ed
Burress leading the race, the Bobcats finished in first, second,
fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth in the men's A race. In
the men's B race the team took all top eight places. In the
women's A race, Mo lead the team again with the team placing
second, third, fourth, ninth, tenth and twelfth. In the men's C
race, Brett Collins, in his first mountain bike race, took first
place.
Sunday morning the riders competed in the cross country race.
Once again the Bobcats completely dominated the race. Scott
Stewart lead the way with a strong win with Wes finishing second.
Overall the team finished in first, second, fourth, fifth, eighth,
ninth and tenth. In the women's A race the women also rode away
with the race with Mo taking first, Kristi Henne in third and
overall first, third, eighth, tenth and eleventh. In the men's B
race the team took the top sixth places lead by freshman Paul Davis
and Eric Jackson. In the men's C race Brett Collins came away his
second win of the weekend.
Sunday afternoon brought one of the more exciting events with
dual slalom. With PJ Post and PJ Noto battling it out again, PJ
Noto this time came away with the win. Freshman Max Wittenberg
also turned in an excellent first race for the Bobcats. In the
women's race the finals came down to teammates Mo and Olivia racing
it out with Mo taking the win and Olivia pushing her to the limit
with second place. In the Men's B race Chris Consorto made it into
the final eight to secure his overall conference lead for B level
conference title. In the men's C race new rider Jacob Vigneault,
in his first dual slalom race, road very hard and finished in
second place.
Overall for the weekend the Cycling Bobcats won all five of
the Men's A races and four of the five women's A races. The B men
and C men racers won their cross country and short track races.
Currently the team is in first place for Div I in their
conference.
