Bobcats Secure Spot in Nationals

Auburn, AL--The Lees-McRae Cycling team headed down to Auburn, AL with an 800 point lead over second place conference foe University of Florida to compete in the Auburn University Races. The team also sports a 600 point lead over second place University of Georgia in national competition. This weekend's competition secured a spot for the Bobcats in Nationals the week of May 10th.

The men started out with an impressive finish in the Men's A Road Race. Scott Stewart rode to the team's first first place victory in Division I Road Race competition. Sam Keesler finished in 5th place while teammate Kevin Holldber grabbed another top ten place for the Bobcats by finishing 9th. In Men's B the Bobcats again had three of the top ten riders with Will Hoffarth finishing 2nd, Sean Condron 4th, and Diego Ramirez 7th.
In the Women's A Road Race the Bobcat Women captures three of the top five spots with Kacey Manfield riding to a second place finish. Kristi Henne and Clara Beard raced to 4th and 5th places respectively. Two Women's B riders pedaled to top ten finishes. Olivia Maurey rode her way to third place while Chloe Jackson came in 8th.
The Bobcats competed in their first Team Time Trial of the season with an impressive showing. The women clinched a first place finish for the Bobcats while the men grabbed both third and fourth places, adding more points to their impressive lead.
In Criterium Racing (a short circuit race) the Bobcats again dominated. In Men's A Scott Stewart rode to a second place finish with Kevin Holldber coming in 5th, Preston Anderson 6th, and Christian White 10th. The Lady Bobcats crushed the competition in Women's A, taking five of the top ten finishes. Kacey Mandefield rode to 2nd, Carla Swart 3rd, Ally Stacher 5th, Jo Markham 7th and Kristi Henne 8th.
Riders Will Hoffarth and Chloe Jackson grabbed first place finishes for both the Men's and Women's B Crit Races. Diego Ramirez finished 7th in the Men's B while Olivia Maurey rode in right behind teammate Jackson to capture 2nd place for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats returned to Banner Elk to ready for their next competition to be held here at Lees-McRae April 14th and 15th.
