BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats cycling program earned their second consecutive USA Collegiate Cycling National Championship honors with a second place finish in the Collegiate Road Nationals.
The Bobcats were led by Carla Swart, who was the overall
Division I winner, finished fourth in the Division I Women's
Criterium and won the Division I Women's Road Race.
Other notable finishes at Road Nationals: Men's Division I Team Time Trial finished fifth, Women's Division I Team Time Trial finished fifth, John Doyle finished 17th in the Men's Division I Criterium, Ally Stacher finished 10th in the Women's Division I Criterium, Kira Shoemaker finished 13th in the Women's Division I Criterium, Kristina Henne finished 24th in the Women's Division Criterium, Scott Jackson finished ninth in the Men's Division I Road Race, Bradford Perley finished 18th in the Men's Division I Road Race, Ally Stacher finished sixth in the Women's Division I Road Race and Kira Shoemaker finished 24th in the Women's Division I Road Race.
In the overall USA Cycling National Championship the Bobcats held a one-point lead over Fort Lewis College heading into the Road Nationals. The Bobcats scored 19 points to extend their overall lead to four points and earn the title of 2008-2009 USA Collegiate Cycling National Champions.
Swart capped off the season becoming the first person to be the national champion in all four cycling disciplines, mountain bike, road, cyclo-cross and track in the same academic year. Earlier in the year, she became the first person to win all four in the same calendar year.
