Cycling Program to Host July Short Track Training Series

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Head cycling coach Luke Winger has announced that the Lees-McRae Cycling program will offer a July Short Track Training Series on July 2nd, 16th and 30th for $10 a night with no license required at the 2007 and 2008 Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals Course down near the lacrosse practice fields at the Lees-McRae College athletic facilities.


Start times will vary by times and cycling experience. C Race, is a beginner race of kids, non-racers or anyone looking for a workout, will begin at 7 p.m. and will last for 15 minutes. B Race will begin at 7:30 p.m. and last for 20 minutes. A Race, advanced race, will begin at 8 p.m. and will last for 25 minutes.

Racers will start in the field and climb up a hill followed by a single track section with a river crossing.

"It is a very fun course for all riders," head coach Luke Winger said.

Race fees will cover insurance and all other proceeds will go directly to the Lees-McRae Cycling program.

Registration will be in the parking lot with no preregistration required.

After the race, all riders can test their handling skills on the Lees-McRae pump track next to the slalom course.

Directions: Take 184 from Tynecastle towards Banner Elk. Take a left on Hickory Nut Gap Road and then turn left into the gym parking lot. Once in the parking lot, stay left and park near the softball field
