BEND, ORE. - The Lees-McRae College cycling team finished second at the Cyclocross Nationals in grueling temperatures ranging from 35 to 8 degrees.
The men's race on Sunday started at 9:30 a.m. with a completely iced over very narrow and technical course. Despite crashes happening at nearly every turn in the 70 plus rider field, the Bobcat men finished very strong putting several riders in the top 20 including Eric Thompson scoring a podium finish in 5th.
At 1:00 p.m. with a thawing course, the Bobcat women started their 40-minute circuit. The women had a great start and battled through the mud and melting ice all day putting three riders in the top ten with Kristen Markham scoring a podium spot in 4th and Erica Zaveta coming in just behind in 6th.
Overall, it was a great weekend for the team as they finished just behind Fort Lewis College and once again secured a podium spot at national championship after finishing fifth at Track Nationals and third at Mountain Bike Nationals.
