ATLANTA, GA. - The Lees-McRae men's and women's cycling team had a good showing winning four of the six events over the weekend at Georgia Tech.
Saturday, Lees-McRae fielded two team-time-trial teams, one men's group and one women's group. The men's team finished second just 8 seconds off the Division 2 national champions time-trial team, Furman College. The women's team, featuring Rachel Warner, Kristen Markham, Erica Zaveta, and freshman Cinthia Lehner, set the time for the day winning the race.
In the rode race, with rain and wind being the key factors, the men's A field started off the 66 mile event. Lees-McRae road aggressively and came to the finish with several splits in the group. Bradford Perley rolled in for 4th with Zach Felpel and Peter Haile coming in 5th and 6th and with Nathan Larson and Eric Thompson rolling in 9th and 10th just a ways back.
The women's A race started and the Lady Bobcats dominated the race taking the top 5 spots with Erica Zaveta rolling in for first.
In the men's B race, Sean McCoy road without teammates and finished up just a ways back from the leaders. In the women's B race, Kathryn Smith rolled in with a solid 4th place just ahead of her freshman teammate Stephanie Woloszczuk, who came in 6th.
Sunday was another strong day for the Bobcats. In the women's A race, the Lady Bobcats dominated the race by taking the top four places, with Lehner coming out on top. Also, starting among the A riders, Woloszczuk finished solidly among the B women.
Riding at the same time, the men's A and B races were dominated by young Lees-McRae riders. Sophomore Jake Lewis powered away solo early on to win the men's B race in dominating fashion. Then in the men's A, Felpel took his second win of the season.
