BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae cycling team will host a portion of the 2010 Rock the Blue Ridge Cycling event that takes place this weekend to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The main event on Sunday includes a 75-mile-ride that loops through a major portion of Avery and Watauga counties. There is also a shorter 35-mile-ride for less experienced riders to enjoy.
On Saturday evening a rodeo event will be held at Lees-McRae from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for riders from two to 18 years-old. Riders will learn skills ranging from learning to ride without training wheels to racing around portions of the 2007-2008 Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championship Course.
"We are extremely excited to be a part of the Rock the Blue Ridge Event," head coach Luke Winger said. "It is great to be involved in the hometown community, and this event gives us a great opportunity to give back for the support they have given us. We hope this event will help us to enable younger riders to develop a lifelong passion for the sport of cycling."
