Four riders pace Bocbats at Lees-McRae Home Race
BANNER ELK, N.C. --- A trio of Bobcats recorded a pair of wins and the Lees-McRae cycling team tallied a total of 11 victories at the Lees-McRae College Home Race this past weekend. Bradford Perley, Jordan Gillespie, and Erica Zaveta each won a pair of races, while Hannah Trimble notched a trio of top-five finishes to pace the Bobcats.
The four events raced were split into two days as the Cross Country and Downhill events occurred on Saturday, while the Short Track Cross Country and the Dual Slalom were held on Sunday.
Perley tallied the Bobcats' first win of the weekend in Saturday's Cross Country event, winning the Men's A race with a time of 1:46:16. Brian Sheedy finished third in the race with a time of 1:57:24, followed by Peter Haile (2:01:43), John Doyle (2:03:06), and Ezra Mullen (2:03:48) as Lees-McRae took five of the top six spots. Gillespie also won the Men's B race with a time of 1:17:25.
Zaveta captured the Bobcats' first win on the women's side, crossing the finish line first in the Women's A Cross Country race with a time of 2:06:04 as Trimble finished fourth with a time of 1:51:30 (three laps).
Eric Bercume added to the Bobcat win total in the Downhill Men's A race, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:08 ahead of teammates Stephen Solt (3:11) and Benjamin Hulse (3:11) as Lees-McRae captured the top three spots. Phillip Noto also finished sixth with a time of 3:28 for the Bobcats.
Sam Stadler finished second in the Men's C race with a time of 4:59. Trimble picked up her first win of the season in the Women's A race, crossing the line with a time of 4:18.
Perley and Gillespie started off their Sunday in identical fashion as the day before, capturing the Men's A and B races, respectively. Lees-McRae placed six riders among the top 10 in the Men's A race, while five Bobcats finished in the top 10 in the B race.
Zaveta notched her second win of the weekend in the Women's A group, leading a trio of Bobcats in the top five as Cinthia Lehner and Kira Shoemaker finished third and fifth, respectively. Hulse tallied his first win of the season in the Dual Slalom Men's A group with a time of 27.820, as Bercume finished sixth with a time of 29.530.
Doyle, Cameron Garrison, and Diego Ramirez finished second, third and fourth, respectively in the Men's B group as Stadler topped the Men's C group. Trimble capped her weekend with a second-place finish in the Women's A group as Shannon Woods finished second in the Women's B group.
Lees-McRae returns to action at the Collegiate Track Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind. on Sep. 23-25.
