MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA --- Current Lees-McRae College cyclist Carla Swart finished in 10th place at the UCI Road World Championships on Saturday, crossing the finish line three seconds behind world champion Giorgia Bronzini of Italy.
A native of South Africa, Swart has enjoyed a tremendous career at Lees-McRae over the last few years, entering the fall as the most decorated woman in the history of collegiate cycling. During the 2008-2009 academic year, Swart accomplished a feat never before achieved in collegiate cycling, capturing an individual national championship in each of the four cycling disciplines (track, mountain bike, cyclocross, and road).
Swart is set to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India as a member of the South African team, taking advantage of the opportunity to represent her country on one of the biggest stages in cycling.
