Swart inks with international powerhouse HTC-Columbia

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- Lees-McRae College cyclist Carla Swart (Buford, Ga.) has signed a contract to ride with one of the most successful cycling teams in the world, joining international powerhouse HTC-Columbia following her 10th-place finish at the UCI World Road Championship last weekend. Swart is set to begin riding with HTC-Columbia at the start of the 2011 season.

The South Africa native has dominated the collegiate women's cycling scene since her arrival at Lees-McRae, entering the fall as the most decorated woman in the history of collegiate cycling. During the 2008-2009 academic year, Swart accomplished a feat never before achieved in collegiate cycling, capturing an individual national championship in each of the four cycling disciplines (track, mountain bike, cyclocross, and road).

Swart is set to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India as a member of the South African team, taking advantage of the opportunity to represent her nation on one of the biggest stages in cycling.
