INDIANAPOLIS --- Rachel Warner (Luray, Va.) captured her first career national championship in the 3K Time Trial at the 2010 Collegiate Track Nationals to lead the Lees-McRae College cycling team to a seventh-place finish in the overall team omnium.
Warner's performance was the highlight of the weekend for the Bobcats, as the sophomore rider won Thursday's 3K time trial by nearly seven seconds in her first-ever track appearance. The Bobcat women followed with a solid sixth-place finish in Friday's Team Pursuit, as LMC also placed eighth in the Mixed Team Sprint.
Zac Felpel (Willow Street, Pa.) turned in the top individual performance of Friday's competition for the Bobcats, finishing 16th in the Men's Sprint. The men's team continued their strong riding on Saturday, finishing fourth in the Men's Team Pursuit as Track Nationals rookie Rodrigo Gomez (Miami, Fla.) qualified for the points race in his first appearance at a national championship event.
Warner and Adormarie Martinez-Adorno finished neck and neck in the Women's Sprint, placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Gomez turned in a solid performance in the men's points race, finishing 25th, while Felpel placed 21st.
