MADISON, Wis. --- The Marian University cycling team won both the men's and women's criteriums on Sunday to complete an impressive comeback, and edge Lees-McRae College for the top spot in the team omnium at the 2011 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships.
Marian captured the team national title with 505 points on the weekend, beating out Lees-McRae's three-day total of 430 points. Fort Lewis College came in third with 351 points, while the University of California-Davis and University of Colorado-Boulder rounded out the top five with 254 and 246 markers, respectively.
The Bobcats' Rachel Warner (Luray, Va.) finished third in the women's individual omnium, earning 210 points after placing second in the road race and 14th in the criterium. Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) and Cinthia Lehner (Greer, S.C.) finished 10th and 14th in the individual omnium, respectively, as Brian Sheedy (Rockford, Mich.) claimed the fourth spot in the men's individual omnium.
Lehner kicked off the day with a sixth-place finish in the women's criterium, pacing the Bobcats to a third-place performance in the competition while Marian finished first to take the lead in the overall team omnium. Zaveta placed 12th in the criterium for the Bobcats, as Warner placed 14th.
Zac Felpel (Willow St., Pa.) paced the Bobcats in the men's criterium, finishing 15th as Sheedy placed 24th. Marian's Adam Leibovitz and Alex Wieseler finished first and 11th, respectively, to clinch the national title for the Knights as Lees-McRae claimed second place.
Lees-McRae caps a tremendous season with the second-place showing at Road Nationals, also claiming its 10th national title at Cyclocross Nationals, while finishing third at Mountain Bike Nationals and seventh at Track Nationals earlier this season.
