BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cycling program announced the signing of Drew Blackstone (North Monmouth, Maine) for the 2017-18 season. Blackstone joins a group of eight other signees for LMC Head Coach Tim Hall as new Bobcats for this coming season.
"We are delighted Drew has chosen to join us here at Lees-McRae College," said Hall. "He is an accomplished and skilled mountain biker we believe will become a difference maker for our elite A team. Drew's podium results at Windham and the Boston Rebellion are superb and are great indicators of his potential. He will focus mostly on cross-country and short-track, but he has also shown a lot of interest in becoming a road racer. We believe he can become equally as good on the road bike as he is on the mountain bike."
Blackstone comes to Banner Elk after winning the Maine High School Championship and Northern New England High School Championship. The New Monmouth, Maine native has also finished third in the Jr. Boston Rebellion US Cup and the Jr. Windham Pro XCT.
"I chose Lees McRae because the school as a whole fits me perfectly and I enjoy the remote mountainous location," said Blackstone. "Coach Hall and the team were very welcoming on my visit."
Blackstone intends on majoring in sports management with a minor in cycling studies when he comes to Banner Elk this fall.
