Cycling closes out 2017-18 season at the Collegiate Road Nationals

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Lees-McRae College cycling programs closed out their 2017-18 seasons by competing at the Collegiate Road Nationals last weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The best performance put forth by any Bobcat was by Ashlyn Woods. Woods placed second in the women's varsity individual omnium with 209 points. Woods picked up a bronze medal in the road race with a time of 2:41.59 before finishing 10th in the criterium with a time of 1:09:10.

On the men's team, Nolan Vanderzwaag led the way placing 10th in the omnium rankings with 137 points. Vanderzwaag finished ninth in the road race and 13th in the criterium.

In addition to the individual parts of the three-day event, the Bobcats also had a men's and women's team compete in the timed trial races. The men's team finished sixth with a time of 42:12.71. That squad consisted by Matthew Armstrong, Daniel Jeske, Caleb Smith and Vanderzwaag. As for the women's race, LMC finished eight with a mark of 51:14.82. The time was put forth by the trio of Erin Sferrazza, Dagny Palmer and Woods.
