CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team
couldn't finish the comeback in their Conference Carolinas season
opener Tuesday night as they fell to the Queens University of
Charlotte Royals 78-70.
Queens (1-3, 1-0) held a 15-point lead, 20-5, just under the midway
mark in the first half. As it looked like the game might get away
from the visiting Bobcats (0-6, 0-1), three-pointers from Aaron
Woodacre (Piney Flats, Tenn.) and Reshon Benjamin (Valdosta, Ga.)
put the teams within six points of each other.
Patrick Fox hit a buzzer-beating three to give the Royals a 32-28
advantage heading to the locker room.
Although Queens quickly opened the lead up to nine after the
intermission, the Bobcats were able cut the lead down and tie the
game with 10:48 to play.
Fox retook the lead for Queens with one of his five threes in the
game. On the next possession he added three more with a shot from
behind the arc. From there, Fox and Reggie Hopkins would score 12
of the next 17 Queens' points.
Woodacre sank a three to put Lees-McRae just four behind with 44
seconds to go, but clutch free throws from J.B. Baldwin, Charles
Burgess and Fox kept the Royals on top for the remainder of the
Nick DeSchepper (Fishers, Ind.) led Lees-McRae with 20 points. Kyle
Boardman (Clemmons, N.C.) followed with 11 and eight rebounds.
Fox led the Royals with 23 points, and Hopkins added 20. Around the
glass Kevin Fowler pulled down nine boards and also put up nine
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, December 2nd on the road at
Newberry at 7 p.m.
