Bobcats Bounced in Overtime Slugfest with Pfeiffer, 106-99

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Six Lees-McRae men's basketball players recorded double digits while shooting 60.7% in the second, but a strong second half from Pfeiffer befuddled LMC while PU escaped with a 106-99 overtime victory in an entertaining Conference Carolina bout Saturday evening at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Falcons (4-10, 1-4 CC) earned their first conference win of the season while three players exploded for at least 23 points and helped knock down 15 free throws in the extra session. The Bobcats (6-8, 1-3 CC) dropped their third straight game despite a double-double from Jacquise Moore (Concord, N.C.)

Pfeiffer sprinted out to a 19-7 lead in the first eight minutes following a Mike Smith layup.

The Bobcats would shave the deficit to two after four players knocked down a three in part of a 13-4 run.

The Falcons AJ Clark and Mark Goods used a 7-0 run to stretch the lead back to nine, 30-21. However, Bobcat junior Darryl Bond (Nashville, Tenn.) went took over and scored five consecutive points before a pair of Donte Falls (Shelby, N.C.) free-throws knotted the game at 30.

LMC's bench dominated the first half, 15-0, but PU controlled the paint, 22-6.

A pair of Moore free-throws gave LMC a healthy eight-point advantage, however the Falcons clawed back to take a 56-55 lead.

The Bobcats Darius Malbon (Hickory, N.C.) gave LMC a 70-60 with 5:44 on the clock before PU finished regulation on a 21-10 run thanks to an Andrew Guerrero three with four ticks on the clock.

The overtime session turned into a free-throw contest while three Bobcats fouled out. PU went 15-of-17 from the line while knocking down 5-of-7 field goals in the extra period.

Smith led all scorers with 28 points while David McNair produced an impressive double-double (23 points, 18 boards).

Moore paced the Bobcat squad with 18 points and 12 rebounds. LMC dished out 15 assists and forced 20 turnovers.

The Bobcats look to snap their recent skid when they welcome Barton for a Conference Carolina game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
