BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Six Lees-McRae players scored at least eight points and senior Jacquise Moore impressed with a double-double while the men's basketball team throttled Piedmont International, 83-56, in a nonconference tilt Friday night at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (2-2) dominated the boards with a +19 difference (49-30) and performed at a 47.4% mark from the floor. The Bruins (3-4) led only once (3-0) while their lone bright spot was Carl Tyson, who dropped a game-high 24 points.
Tyson scored PIU's first 12 points with four three-pointers. LMC's Moore (Concord, N.C.) led Coach Steve Hardin's squad with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats used a 22-6 run over an eight-minute span to put the game out of reach early thanks to consecutive triples from freshman Zach Wilmoth (Dobson, N.C.).
Wilmoth finished the game with 10 points and two rebounds.
LMC's defense stymied the Bruins by holding them without a field goal for the final 7:26 of the first half. The Bobcats forced 20 turnovers on the night.
Moore and freshman Tyriq Royal (Kernersville, N.C.) tallied the Bobcats first 10 points of the second half and sophomore Rishad Felton (Hendersonville, N.C.) knocked down a pair of three's to extend the lead to 32 with 11:08 remaining.
The Bruins' Kaylin Byrd ripped off an eight-point outburst in the final three minutes and was the only other PIU player in double figures (11).
13 Bobcats logged 12 minutes or more while LMC shot 51.4% in the second half.
LMC travels to Belmont Abbey for a Conference Carolinas battle Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Belmont, N.C.
