Hot Shooting Burns Bobcats, 76-70

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Kendall Isler and senior Raul Tutton score 16 points each, but the Lees-McRae men's basketball dropped a tightly-contested bout to Brevard, 76-70, in nonconference action Monday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Tornados (2-7) swiped their second win on the season behind an 18-point effort from Trevon Shaw while the team shot 56% from the field. The Bobcats (4-4) knocked down seven three-pointers while junior Cameron Redd (Garner, N.C.) chipped in 10 points.

BC shot a staggering 60.9% in the second half while leading final 22:12.

Isler (Winder, Ga.) connected on a pair of free throws eight minutes into the contest, giving LMC a 17-10 lead.

The Tornados ripped off a 13-6 run to knot it at 23 after Darius Moose drained a three and Alex Moe followed with a layup.

Sophomore Chad Hicks (Winston-Salem, N.C.) splashed a deep three before Tutton (Memphis, Tenn.) rocked the rim with a monster dunk with 4:14 left in the first, tied at 29.

BC's Shaw scored on a bucket-plus-one to give the Tornados a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Sophomore Darius Malbon (Hickory, N.C.) connected on his lone three-point attempt of the day to cut the deficit to three, 43-40.

The Tornados' lead ballooned to nine following a Jayolon Debardlabon dunk, but, Isler responded with a deep trip to make it 58-55.

Both teams exchanged buckets over the next two minutes before a 7-0 run crippled LMC's comeback attempt.

Sophomore Rishad Felton (Hendersonville, N.C.) made two free throws with 11 seconds remaining, but the Bobcats were unable to complete the rally.

Senior Sean Deniton (Durham, N.C.) dished out a game-high five assists while Isler and Cameron Redd (Garner, N.C.) had five rebounds each.

The Bobcats conclude their 2014 portion of the season with a trip to Emory & Henry Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in Emory, Va.
