FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. --- The Lees-McRae men's basketball team was unable to overcome a sluggish first half while dropping a bout with Conference Carolina newcomer Emmanuel (Ga.), 71-56, Thursday night in Franklin Springs, Ga.
The Lions (6-7, 2-4 CC) were led by Michael Stanley's 21-point effort while teammate Luke Miller drained a quartet of three's. The Bobcats (5-7, 1-5) went point-for-point with EC in the second half while senior Jacquise Moore (Concord, N.C.) led Steve Hardin's squad with 11 points.
Both offenses were stagnant the opening 11:03 of the contest while a Steven Guinchard jumper gave the Lions a slim 13-9 lead.
EC hit three consecutive jumpers to extend the lead to 13, 25-12.
Sophomore Darius Malbon (Hickory, N.C.) connected on a three with 1:55 remaining before a Moore jumper kept the Bobcats within striking distance.
LMC produced a 12-3 run, capped off by consecutive jumpers from Donte Falls (Shelby, N.C.) and Malbon to cut the deficit to six, 39-33.
The Lions retorted with a 7-0 run themselves less than a minute later.
Miller ripped off eight straight points before a Sean Deniton (Durham, N.C.) three snapped the run with 3:51 remaining in regulation.
LMC's Jonathan Honore (Baton Rouge, La.) sunk a three with 90 seconds on the clock to cap off the Bobcats scoring.
Malbon finished with nine points while Deniton and senior Raul Tutton (Memphis, Tenn.) amassed eight each.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. to battle Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C.
