BANNER ELK, N.C. --- 14 players scored a bucket and seniors Raul Tutton and Sean Deniton dropped a team-high 13 points each while the Lees-McRae men's basketball team throttled Montreat College, 103-64, in a dunk fest Thursday night at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (8-7) scored a season-high 103 points, marking their third consecutive game of setting a season-high in points. The Cavaliers (5-9) were led by Melvin Ervin, who impressed with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Coach Steve Hardin methodically rotated his players in and out throughout the contest while no player played more than 16 minutes.
Deniton (Durham, N.C.) tallied 11 of his points in the first 4:25 while LMC produced a 31-8 run in the first 8:09.
Tutton (Memphis, Tenn.) dropped a pair of threes during the spurt.
The Bobcats' tenacious defense held the Cavaliers without a bucket for 4:30 while stretching the lead to 25, 39-17, capped off by a Keegan Crabtree (Hillsborough, N.C.) layup.
Montreat would connect on two three-pointers, but would be held without a field goal for the final 5:30 of the first half.
LMC's defense stymied the Cavs in the first 20 minutes by holding them to 28% while the Bobcat offense hit seven three-pointers in the first half for the third consecutive game.
Wilmoth opened the gates to dunk mountain with a monster jam, moments after draining a three, giving the Bobcats their largest least of the game, 85-46.
Montreat would only muster two made baskets in the final 5:35 while Crabtree and freshman Jordan Turner swished a three-pointer each in the waning minutes of the contest.
LMC shot an eye-popping 66.7% in the second half and 62.9% on the game.
Sophomore Donte Falls (Shelby, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with six rebounds.
LMC jumps back into Conference Carolinas play when it hosts Pfeiffer Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
