BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lepreece Lynch scored a career-high 25 points and the Lees-McRae men's basketball team forced 25 turnovers while defeating Southern Wesleyan, 98-91, in a Conference Carolinas game Friday evening at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (12-9, 8-3) scored 90+ points for the fourth time in the month of January while shooting 54.1% in the first half. The Warriors (2-18, 1-11) enjoyed a double-double from Jemiah Wimphrie (18 points, 10 rebounds).
Senior Austin Anderson (Anderson, S.C.) put together a solid evening with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) buried a three after hitting a pair of free throws to put LMC up 15-5 in the first 2:58 of play.
Wimphrie tallied eight of SWU's next 10 points.
The Bobcat offense got rolling with a 17-2 run over a span of 5:20, capped off by another triple from Lynch.
Five different Bobcats scored during the spurt.
Coach Steve Hardin's crew pushed the lead to 22 at the break after sophomore Zach Wilmoth (Dobson, N.C.) drained a three at the buzzer following jumpers from Malbon and senior Kendall Isler (Winder, Ga.).
The Warriors' Kenny Holmes sparked a 6-0 run to start the second half with five points, 60-44.
Lynch lifted off with back-to-back thunderous dunks while Anderson earned assists on both plays.
Malbon joined the dunk fest with one of his own at the 16:01 mark, 70-47.
The Bobcats grabbed their largest lead of the contest after Wilmoth carved the defense and scored on a layup, 81-52.
The Warriors stepped up in the final seven minutes of the game and used an 11-3 run to cut the lead to 17.
After an Anderson three, SWU put together another loud run, 13-0, and shaved the deficit to six after a triple from Jamaral Kearse.
Sophomore Keegan Crabtree (Hillsborough, N.C.) and Anderson were clutch in the final 25 seconds from the charity stripe to stave off the comeback.
Malbon and Redd finished with 11 points each while Redd swatted a pair of shots.
LMC travels to King (Tenn.) Wednesday, Feb. 3 for a showdown at 7:30 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
