MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- Junior Darius Malbon poured in a career-high 19 points and senior Austin Anderson dropped 24, but the Lees-McRae men's basketball team fell to Mount Olive, 100-79, in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.
The Trojans (14-9, 9-6 CC) had six players in double figures, including three with 16 or more. The Bobcats (13-11, 9-5) forced 21 turnovers while Anderson (Anderson, S.C.) amassed 20 points or more for the seventh time this season.
Malbon (Hickory, N.C.) has been on a tear lately and notched double figures in four consecutive games. The junior went 6-for-9 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Anderson scored LMC's first eight points before a jumper from Malbon at the 14:24 mark.
UMO's John Wieland dished out an assist before draining a three, giving the Trojans a 17-10 lead.
Wieland finished with 17 points.
Malbon splashed a triple after a Cameron Redd (Garner, N.C.) jumper to cut the deficit to six, 24-18.
The Bobcat defense clamped down and held UMO to one bucket in a span of 4:26 midway through the first half.
Junior Josh Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) sank four consecutive free throws in a span of 21 seconds despite his squad trailing 40-30.
UMO took a 46-34 lead into the intermission after going 14-for-17 from the charity stripe.
The Trojans' Dominique Reed scored seven points in the first 2:05 of the second half while the home team pushed the lead to 17.
LMC's Lepreece Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) connected on a jumper to break an offensive drought for the Bobcats.
UMO kept LMC at arm's length and shot 55.9% in the second half.
Gaither and Anderson led the team with eight rebounds apiece.
The Bobcats welcome North Greenville Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. in a CC battle and Senior Day in Williams Gymnasium. Anderson, Redd and Kendall Isler (Winder, Ga.) will be honored prior to the contest.
