Men's Basketballs Falls in Heartbreaker to King (Tenn.), 92-90

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lepreece Lynch scored a game-high 19 points and senior Austin Anderson dropped 15, but the Lees-McRae men's basketball lost a heartbreaker to King (Tenn.), 92-90, in a Conference Carolinas battle Tuesday night at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Tornado (22-5, 17-2 CC) was led by CJ Good's 18 points while Hunter LeVeau grabbed eight rebounds. The Bobcats (16-13, 12-7) had a potential game-winning three rim out at the buzzer.

LMC will be the No. 2 or 3 seed in the upcoming CC Men's Basketball Tournament.

Coach Steve Hardin's team has hit 17 or more threes in three of the last five games.

Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) scored five quick points to open play, including a jumper that tied the contest at 11.

Following another Lynch jumper, King went on a 16-5 run, powered by seven points from Mikquell Jackson.

The Tornado took their largest lead of the game with consecutive three pointers from Derick Pope, 37-21.

Three different Bobcats drained a triple before an impressive and-one play from Zach Wilmoth (Dobson, N.C.) cut the deficit to five, 42-37.

Wilmoth splashed a three before Anderson (Anderson, S.C.) and Trey Hall (Apopka, Fla.) followed suit, giving the Bobcats the 51-47 advantage.

Junior Darius Malbon (Hickory, N.C.) joined the triple party while LMC took a 54-51 lead into the intermission.

King shot 58.1% from the field in the first half and the Bobcats were good for 51.3.

LMC used a trio of three pointers to rip off a 9-0 run in a span of 1:27 and grab its largest lead of the night, 78-67.

King's defense clamped down and held the Bobcats without a bucket for 5:15 and tying the game at 80.

Both teams exchanged buckets until a Kendall Isler (Winder, Ga.) three put LMC up 88-84.

The Tornado methodically worked the lead back into their favor after a pair of free throws from Mack Owen.

Leading by one, King's Calvin Walker went 1-for-2 from the stripe with 12 seconds remaining.

LMC's game-winning attempt rimmed out as the buzzer sounded.

Junior Chad Hicks (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished with 10 points while Anderson led the team in rebounds (five) and assists (six).

The Bobcats conclude their regular season Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. against North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C.
