BANNER ELK, N.C. – Freshman Jordan Turner scored a career-high 21 points and connected on five three-pointers to help lead the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team to its first win of the season as the Bobcats knocked off Johnson C. Smith by a score of 70-66.
Turner and Donte Falls were the major reasons why the Bobcats held a 35-33 lead. Turner knocked down a trio from beyond the arc and led the team with nine points. Falls was not far behind scoring eight of 11 points in the opening half.
Johnson C. Smith's Christian Williams did his best to get the Golden Bulls back in front for good in the second half totaling 18 points and 12 rebounds. Despite Williams's best efforts, however, the Bobcats held on for the four-point victory.
Additionally, both teams held leads of at least 10 points Tuesday and there were nine lead changes in total. A major reason for LMC coming out on top was the work of its bench. Spearheaded by the 21 points by Turner, LMC's reserves totaled 37 points compared to 17 for Johnson C. Smith.
Following the break for Thanksgiving, the Bobcats will return to the court next Tuesday as they head to Georgia to take on Emmanuel. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Franklin Springs.
