BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team knocked down 11 three-pointers Saturday on its way to a 76-65 victory over Mount Olive. The win marks the first conference victory for the Bobcats and move their record to 2-6 on the season.
Neither team was able to get any extended runs together in the first 10 minutes of action as both teams were knotted at 16 a side. LMC got things rolling in the second part of the first half opening up a 34-18 lead on the Trojans thanks to several three-pointers. Rishad Felton knocked down four shots from beyond the arc in the first half, while Keegan Crabtree drained a trio of triples himself to help the Bobcats gain a 42-24 lead going into halftime.
Mount Olive made some adjustments in the second half as it outscored the Bobcats in the stanza. UMO got within 10 points of LMC, 73-63, but that was where the comeback stalled as the Bobcats finished off the 76-65 victory.
Junior Donte Falls was a force not only offensively, but also on the glass for Lees-McRae Saturday. Falls scored a career-high 22 points, while also collecting a career-best 11 rebounds. It was Falls's first career double-double as well. Fellow junior Rishad Felton also had a career day posting 15 points with all points coming via the three-pointer.
The Bobcats return to Williams Gymnasium Monday evening when they host Virginia State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
