BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team cruised to an 81-66 victory over Erskine Wednesday evening. The Bobcats improved to 6-15 overall and 5-8 in Conference Carollinas play with the win.
In the opening 20 minutes of play the Bobcats used a stellar effort on the glass to help cement their advantage over Erskine. LMC doubled up Erskine in rebounds in the first half (28-13). Lepreece Lynch had nine of these 28 rebounds to lead Lees-McRae in that category. Thanks to the efforts by Lynch and the rest of the Bobcats, Lees-McRae was able to build up a 36-22 on the Flying Fleet heading into the locker room for halftime.
Junior Jordan Turner made sure the Bobcats stayed in front when the two teams returned from halftime. Turner scored 18 of his team-high 21 points Wednesday in the second half to power the Lees-McRae offense. All 18 points from Turner came via three-point range. Due to the work by Turner and the rest of the Bobcats, Erskine was unable to get within single digits of Lees-McRae in the second half as LMC finished off the 81-66 win.
Turner was not the only Bobcat to finish in double figures on the scoreboard Wednesday as Donte Falls chipped in 12 points and added six rebounds. It marked the 17th time in 21 games this season that Falls has scored at least 10 points in a game. Lynch finished with a career-high 15 rebounds, eight points and four steals. Additionally, 13 of the 15 players that played for the Bobcats Wednesday scored at least two points.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday when it hosts Southern Wesleyan at Williams Gymnasium. LMC knocked off the Warriors 93-64 earlier this season. Tip-off on Saturday is slated for 4 p.m.
