BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the second consecutive season, the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team will match up against Limestone College in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Unlike last season, however, this season's game will be in Gaffney, S.C. and is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off time on Tuesday.
Last Time Out – Despite leading for over half of the game, the Bobcats dropped an 88-81 decision on the road at King (Tenn.) last Friday. With the loss, LMC wrapped up the regular season with a record of 8-20 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
Postseason Note – For the third consecutive season, the Bobcats have qualified for the Conference Carolinas Tournament. It is the first time in program history that LMC has made the postseason in three straight years.
Playoff Déjà vu– As mentioned earlier, this will be the second straight season that the Saints and Bobcats have matched up in the first round of the conference tournament. Limestone was able to edge the Bobcats, 75-74, in that game. Former Bobcat Austin Anderson led all scorers with 29 points in the contest, while Lepreece Lynch added 15 points to pace LMC.
About Limestone – Limestone enters the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Saints, who finished the regular season 23-5, earned a share of the conference championship with Pfeiffer but due to tiebreakers the No. 1 seed and home court advantage throughout the tournament went to the Falcons.
Series Rewind – Limestone won both matchups against Lees-McRae this season. LC won the first game by a score of 94-77 in Gaffney, S.C., but the Bobcats nearly upset the Saints when the two teams matched up in Banner Elk, 75-73. Junior Donte Falls has led LMC in the previous two meetings averaging 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
