BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team surpassed the 100-point plateau for the second time this season Thursday night at Williams Gymnasium as it defeated Johnson University, 102-89. The victory improves LMC's record to 6-3 on the season.
Lees-McRae's offense started slowly in the opening 20 minutes of action Thursday. LMC shot just 36.8 percent from the field compared to 42.5 percent for the Royals. In addition to their work from the field, the Royals nearly went perfect from the free throw line connecting seven of their eight attempts. With the combination of shooting from the field and from the free throw line, the Royals led the Bobcats 46-37 going into the locker room for halftime.
Facing a nine-point deficit, the Bobcats came out in the second half reenergized. Lees-McRae shot 62.2 percent from the field to open up a 14 points lead on the Royals. Johnson did not go away quietly, however, as it trimmed LMC's lead down to one possession as late as five minutes to go in regulation. The Bobcats persevered though scoring 20 of the next 30 points to pull away from the Royals, 102-89.
Individually, the Bobcats were led Thursday by senior Lepreece Lynch. Lynch scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in the victory. The duo of Donte Falls and Jason Saintizaire also had productive nights scoring 15 points each and both led LMC with eight rebounds each.
The Bobcats will step back into conference play Saturday when they travel to Gaffney to take on rival Limestone. Tip-off between Lees-McRae and Limestone is set for 4 p.m.
