BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the third time this season, the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team eclipsed the century mark as it defeated Anderson University by a score of 105-99 Saturday night at Williams Gymnasium. The victory boosts LMC's record to 7-4 on the season.
The first half had no shortage of offense as both teams shot over 50 percent in the opening 20 minutes. Anderson's Gage Ellis led all scorers with 26 points in the first half on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. Despite the best efforts by Ellis and the rest of the Trojans, the Bobcats held the lead at the intermission after Quay Kimble sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer as time expired to give LMC a 57-54 lead.
Anderson battled back to regain the lead in the second half and it led by as many as eight points with 7:51 to go in regulation. The Bobcats, however, mounted a rally of their own pulling in front of the Trojans for good and holding on for the six-point victory.
Kamil Williams scored a career-high 25 points to power the Bobcat offense Saturday night. Lepreece Lynch added 20 points of his own for his fourth 20-plus point performance of his senior season. Lynch also paced LMC on the glass grabbing five rebounds to match Donte Falls and Josh Gaither in that category. Falls also scored 13 points to round out the double figure scorers for Lees-McRae on the night.
LMC will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas clash. Tip-off between the Bobcats and Crusaders is set for 7:30 p.m.
