BANNER ELK, N.C. – A day after perhaps one of the most exciting wins in recent memory, the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team treated its hometown crowd to a victory once again Saturday as it defeated Barton College, 105-92, at Williams Gymnasium. The win boosts the Bobcats' record to 14-7 overall and 8-4 in Conference Carolinas play.
It looked like the Bobcats may run away from the Bulldogs in the opening few minutes Saturday. LMC led 17-3 with a little over six minutes gone off the clock in the first half. The Bulldogs battled back to cut the Bobcat lead down to six points but the latter would go on another run to close out the frame to finish off a strong first half with a 51-37 lead.
The Bulldogs shot nearly 56 percent from the field in the second half to once again make a run at the lead that Lees-McRae had created. Barton was able to get within five points of the Bobcats in the second half but that was as close as they would get as the Bobcats held on for the 105-92 victory. It marked the fifth time this season that LMC has surpassed the 100-point plateau and the second against the Bulldogs.
Donte Falls did a little bit of everything Saturday to help the Bobcats win their second straight game. The senior captain scored a team-high 22 points, totaled eight rebounds and dished out four assists. Fellow seniors Jordan Turner, Lepreece Lynch and Josh Gaither also finished in double figures with 15, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Rounding out the double figure scorers was Jason Saintizaire who finished with 19 points. It's the 12th time this season that Saintizaire has scored 15 or more points in a game, which only trails Lynch on the team in that category who has 13 such games.
Lees-McRae will look for its third straight win Wednesday when it travels to Belmont Abbey for a mid-week conference matchup. Wednesday's contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
