CENTRAL, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team picked up a historic 93-79 victory at Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night. The victory is LMC's 17th of the season, which sets a new single-season win record for the program. Additionally, the victory also boosts Lees-McRae within a half game of league leader Mount Olive with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
The opening 20 minutes of play were peculiar when looking at certain numbers on the stat sheet. First, SWU shot 65 percent from the field in the frame. Despite that stellar shooting performance, the Warriors were plagued by 12 turnovers, which turned into 14 Bobcat points. Those 14 points nearly accounted for all of the difference between the two teams at the break as the Bobcats led SWU, 53-40.
Southern Wesleyan did not fade away in the second half as it kept chipping away at the Bobcat lead throughout the frame. SWU got as close as six points to Lees-McRae but that was the extent of its comeback attempts with the Bobcats holding on to win 93-79.
Balance was key for the Bobcats in Tuesday's historic victory. Six different Bobcats finished with at least 10 points on the night. Quay Kimble led LMC in scoring a career-high 22 points, and Jason Saintizaire added 18 of his own. Jordan Turner finished with 12 after draining four three-pointers. Rounding out the double figure scorers were Kamil Williams and Malik Wright with 11, and Lepreece Lynch chipped in 10.
Lees-McRae will look for its sixth straight win Saturday when it hosts North Greenville in Banner Elk. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Williams Gymnasium.
