BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team fell to Emmanuel College in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium by a score of 91-82. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 5-13 overall and 2-7 within the conference.
Emmanuel went down low early and often in the opening 20 minutes of Saturday's contest. 32 of EC's 50 points in the first half were scored in the paint, including 16 on second chance opportunities. With the Lions' inside game clicking so well, the Bobcats faced a 22-point deficit heading to the halftime break.
Coming out of the locker room from halftime, the Bobcats were able to make some adjustments to try and catch Emmanuel. Thanks to going 12-for-15 from the free throw line and knocking down eight three-pointers, the Bobcats were able to trim Emmanuel's lead down to single digits. However, the team ran out of time as the Lions held on for the 91-82 victory.
The Bobcats were led by a trio of freshmen Saturday. Andrew Gardner led Lees-McRae on the scoreboard with 21 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Anthony Hicks netted 20 points of his own, which was a new career-high for the Winston-Salem native. Rounding out the double-figure scorers for the Bobcats Saturday was Jonathan Webb with 10 points.
Lees-McRae will be back in action Wednesday when it hosts rival King University at Williams Gymnasium. Wednesday's contest is set for the team's 'Gold Out' where t-shirts will be given out during the game. Tip-off between the Bobcats and Tornado is set for 7:30 p.m.
