BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team will head out on the road for games at Southern Wesleyan and North Greenville this week. The Bobcats will take on SWU on Monday at 6 p.m. before heading to NGU on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
Last Time Out – The Bobcats picked up a key 78-70 victory at Mount Olive Saturday afternoon. The victory pushes Lees-McRae's overall record to 7-13 and its league mark to 4-7.
Starting a streak – With the win at Mount Olive, the Bobcats have now won back-to-back games. Lees-McRae also downed rival King University last Wednesday, 74-70, to account for the other victory. If the Bobcats can win at Southern Wesleyan on Monday it will mark the longest winning streak for the program this season.
Sophomore stepping up – A major reason for the two straight wins is the play of sophomore Quay Kimble. Kimble averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in the two wins. Additionally, Kimble also leads league with 38 steals, while ranking fourth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (43.6).
About the opponents – Southern Wesleyan comes into Monday's game with the Bobcats with a record of 2-16 overall and 1-8 in Conference Carolinas action. SWU will be looking to snap its current nine-game losing skid when Monday's tilt gets underway. Individually, Jalen Lowry has been SWU's top player averaging 14.5 points per game this season.
North Greenville, meanwhile, is 2-15 overall and 0-9 in conference play so far during the 2018-19 campaign. Just like SWU, NGU is looking to snap a losing streak this week as it has dropped its last four games.
Series histories vs. opponents – Lees-McRae has already played Southern Wesleyan and North Greenville this season. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors 87-70 and the Crusaders 81-78 in Banner Elk in mid-December. Since 2006, Lees-McRae is 8-1 against Southern Wesleyan and 12-7 against North Greenville.
