BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team got back into the win column on Wednesday night with a 94-83 victory over Limestone College at Williams Gymnasium. The win pushes LMC's record to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in conference action.
The opening 20 minutes of action were tightly contested between the Saints and Bobcats. Lees-McRae relied heavily on outside shooting for offense as it knocked down seven triples in the first half. Limestone, meanwhile, went inside and scored 20 points in the painted area. With two contrasting styles, Limestone took a slim 39-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After scoring just 37 points in the first half, the Bobcat offense found its rhythm in the second half in a major way. Lees-McRae shot an impressive 55.9 percent from the field, made seven more three-pointers and went 12-for-13 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. With the LMC offense clicking so well, the Bobcats eventually pulled in front for good against Limestone winning by a 94-83 final tally.
Senior Jerick Haynes led all scorers Wednesday night with 23 points on 9-for-13 effort form the field. Wes Morgan had easily his best performance of the season scoring a career-high 17 points with five made three-pointers. Kamil Williams added 16 points to go along with 12 points from Anthony Hicks and Quay Kimble chipped 11 points to round out the double figure scorers for LMC.
The Bobcats will have a quick turnaround as they host Erskine on Thursday night at Williams Gymnasium. Tip-off for that contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
