Marcus Wilmoth is in his first season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Lees-McRae College.
Wilmoth comes to Lees-McRae from nearby Appalachian State University, where he served as a graduate assistant with the Mountaineer men’s basketball program last season. He filled many roles during his time at ASU, serving as the program’s Film Exchange coordinator and game film editor, as well as a skill development coach and camp coordinator.
Prior to working with the Mountaineers, Wilmoth played one season at Surry Community College for his father, Eddie Wilmoth. The Dobson, N.C. native has also served as the head coach of the Carolina Bearcats AAU team for the past three seasons following a successful AAU career of his own, winning a national championship with the NC Gaters AAU team.
Wilmoth is a second generation coach, following in the footsteps of his father, Eddie Wilmoth, who was a long-time AAU and junior college basketball coach, as well as Western Commissioner for North Carolina’s AAU Boy’s Basketball program. The younger Wilmoth graduated from Appalachian State in December 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, and is currently working toward a master’s in special education.
