No. 11 Mount Olive Upends Bobcats in Men's Lacrosse Action

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Sophomore Dane Carney netted two goals and freshman Jordan Lombardo collected a game-high six groundballs, but the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team fell to No. 11 Mount Olive, 18-3, Tuesday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas bout at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Trojans (7-2, 2-0 CC) had six players with at least two goals, led by Jake Duarte's hat trick. The Bobcats' (1-7, 0-3) Carney (Manchester, England) has tallied a goal in every game this season.

UMO's Matt Shields jumpstarted the visiting offense by dishing out two assists and scoring twice in the first quarter.

Brett Kingston found the back of the net twice and earned an assist in the first while the Trojans held a 7-0 lead.

LMC impressed in the second half by only allowing seven shots in the third quarter.

Both offenses were effective while neither team had more than 14 turnovers.

Junior Blaine Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.) cracked the scoreboard for the Bobcats with a goal in the third with 8:51 remaining.

Carney bested UMO's Will Urban twice in a span of 2:46 while William Eagle (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Stottlar collected assists.

Carney (21) and Stottlar (17) sit tied for second and sixth, respectively, for goals scored in the conference.

Lombardo (York, Pa.) amassed 10 saves and Stottlar paced the offense with five shots.

LMC travels to Emmanuel (Ga.) for a CC tilt Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m. in Franklin Springs, Ga.
