Men's Lacrosse Seniors Shine in Rain-Soaked Win, 14-10

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The three Lees-McRae seniors accounted for seven goals and four assists, while the men's lacrosse team outplayed Ohio Valley, 14-10, in a rain-soaked contest Sunday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats (2-12) tallied 14 goals, which is their highest goal output since Feb. 20, 2010 (17), while Dominick Hamilton (Beech Mountain, N.C.) won a game-high eight faceoffs. The Fighting Scots (0-14) saw Kyle Aylesworth lead the team offensively with four goals and two assists.

LMC honored Joshua Shingleton (Temecula, Calif.), Dalton Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) and Jarrod Brady (Kernersville, N.C.) prior to the contest.

Shingleton dished out a pair of assists and Lamb tallied two goals in the first 11:19 while Coach Darry Thornton's squad took a 4-1 lead.

Brady and Lamb notched goals within 30 seconds of each other to push the lead to four, 6-2, at the end of the first quarter.

LMC dominated the first quarter with a game-high 22 groundballs and 19 shots.

Sophomore Dane Carney (Manchester, England) notched his second tally of the contest with 5:03 remaining in the second before OVU's Aylesworth cut the deficit to three, 8-5, with his second goal of the contest in the waning moments of the half.

Four different Bobcats found the back of the net in the first 5:38 of a physical third quarter.

Junior Blaine Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.), who recorded a hat trick, dealt out an assists and scored to spark the run.

The Fighting Scots would produce a 4-1 run over a span of 9:16, while Aylesworth assisted on both of Tyson Abbott's goals before scoring two of his own in the fourth.

LMC's defense clamped down and held OVU scoreless in the final 9:04.

Junior defender Dillon Quinn (Greensboro, N.C.) scooped eight groundballs and caused three turnovers while Stottlar led all players with nine groundballs.

Freshman Jordan Lombardo stonewalled 14 shots and collected five groundballs.

The Bobcats concluded their 2015 slate with a trip to Mars Hill Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C.
