BUENA VISTA, Va. --- Sophomore Dane Carney scored a season-high five goals while senior Dalton Lamb scooped a game-high 10 groundballs, but the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team fell in their eason finale, 23-17, to Southern Virginia Saturday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.
The Knights (2-14) saw a trio of players score five or more goals while Sean Petersen led the way with six. The Bobcats (2-14) saw Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) have a perfect shooting day while scoring four times on four shots.
Lamb dished out a pair of assists to Carney (Manchester, England) in the first quarter, but SVU used a pair of Anthony Good goals to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter.
A trio of Bobcats would find the back of the net in the second, including junior Blaine Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.) with 1:10 remaining.
Stottlar impressed with four goals and a pair of assists on nine shots.
SVU would extend its lead to seven after a 5-1 run in the first nine minutes of the third, but LMC's Carney caught fire and netted a trio of goals in stunning fashion while only needing 33 seconds to accomplish the feat.
The Knights methodically pushed the lead back to seven before the Bobcats took advantage of an unpoised SVU squad, who received a three minute non releasable penalty.
LMC tallied four goals in a span of 1:19 while Stottlar was responsible for two of them and an assist. Senior Joshua Shingleton (Temecula, Calif.) and Lamb also tallied goals during the spurt.
SVU eventually staved off LMC's rally attempt by using a 5-1 run in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
Lamb, Shingleton and Jarrod Brady (Kernersville, N.C.) played in their final contest in a Bobcat uniform.
