GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Freshman Cameron Castle made 22 saves in his collegiate debut and six different players scored a goal, but the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team fell short to Greensboro College, 8-6, Saturday afternoon at Pride Field in Greensboro, N.C.
The Pride (1-0) used a hat trick from Lamar Jelks while two different players dished out two assists each. The Bobcats (0-1) offense was led by Blaine Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.), who fired off a team-high nine shots.
Stottlar dished out an assist on LMC's first goal while Alec Molander (Saanichton, B.C.) found the back of the net 2:06 in the contest.
GC responded with three goals to grab a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.
Sophomore Tanner Jones (Comox Valley, B.C.) sparked a 3-0 run with a goal and an assist to put the Bobcats up 4-3 at the half.
LMC needed only 1:39 to produce the run.
Both defenses were lights out in the third while the Pride's Jonathan Avedesian was the only player to score for either team during the quarter.
GC pushed its lead to two, 6-4, after a pair of Austin Bane assists.
The Bobcats responded quickly with two goals in a 59-second span to tie it at six. Junior Dane Carney (Manchester, England) assisted on the fifth goal before scoring the sixth goal.
Jelks broke the tie with two goals of his own in a 22-second window while GC held on.
Junior Louis Parks (Mays Landing, N.J.) and Molander led the team in groundballs with seven and six, respectively.
Castle (Fort Collins, Colo.) made nine saves in the fourth and junior Allan Smith (Honeoye, N.Y.) won five faceoffs in the game.
LMC welcomes Lincoln Memorial Saturday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Tate Field.
