BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Blaine Stottlar scored five times and freshman Alec Molander contributed four assists while the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team fell short in a hard-fought battle, 16-10, against No. 17 Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas tilt on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Falcons (5-2, 1-0 CC) had three players net hat tricks, including a five-goal game from Cole Sheen. The Bobcats (1-5, 0-1) hung tough while outscoring the opposition 4-3 in the third quarter.
Junior Dane Carney (Manchester, England) and PU's Kyle Pauwels scored twice in the first 10:49.
Carney's second tally knotted the contest at three. Molander (Saanichton, British Columbia) delivered assists on both goals.
Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.) opened his scoring barrage with a goal with five minutes remaining in the first before striking again in the opening moments of the second.
PU responded with a 6-0 run while five different players scored a goal.
The Bobcats roared back with a 5-1 run in a span of 7:46.
Senior Nick Meyer (St. Louis, Mo.) opened the run with a goal before Molander tallied one of his own 43 seconds later.
Stottlar tallied his fourth of the day to make it 11-9 with 14:16 to go in the fourth.
The Falcons' Sheen sparked a 5-0 run before Stottlar scored the contests final goal with 1:04 left in regulation.
Freshman Cameron Castle (Fort Collins, Colo.) played strong defense by amassing 20 saves. He currently leads the conference in saves.
LMC travels to Belmont Abbey Tuesday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m. for a CC game in Belmont, N.C.
