BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Alec Molander scored the game-winning goal with 2:45 remaining in overtime while the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team enjoyed a 12-11 overtime win against Emmanuel (Ga.) on Senior Day in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (3-12, 1-5 CC) earned their first conference win since 2008 (April 10, vs. Pfeiffer) while Molander (Saanichton, British Columbia) amassed 10 points in the contest. The Lions (1-14, 0-6) saw Craig Marentette and Darian Richardson netted hat tricks.
Coach Darry Thornton's squad tied the school record for wins in a season with three while setting a season-high in shots with 65.
Junior Dane Carney (Manchester, England) impressed with a six-goal effort.
Carney and Molander are seventh and ninth, respectively, in the conference in goals scored.
Molander scored a pair of unassisted goals in the first before dishing out an assist to Carney with 2:27 left in the opening frame while the score was tied at three.
EC took a 5-3 lead following goals from Richardson and Marentette.
The Bobcats responded with a pair of goals in the final 9:16 from Molander and a man-up goal from Carney.
LMC dominated the third quarter with a 10-4 advantage in groundballs, 17-10 on shots and a perfect 7-for-7 on clear attempts.
Molander delivered helpers to Carney on the Bobcats first two goals of the third before Blaine Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.) dished out an assist with 1:41 remaining in the third.
Dickerson, Dustin Barrow (Columbia, S.C.), Gage Wozniak (Newman, Ga.), Dillon Quinn (Greensboro, N.C.), Blaine Williams (Canton, N.C.), Alex Poole (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Nick Meyer (St. Louis, Mo.) and Ethan Thomson (Clinton, N.Y.) were honored prior to the contest.
The Lions snagged an 11-10 lead with 4:30 remaining in regulation after a Justin Mills goal.
Junior Sean Miggins (Bronx, N.Y.) timed his first goal of the season perfectly when he bested Alan Troutman with 3:05 left to tie the contest at 11.
Mills threw a shot on goal with 10 seconds left in regulation, but a fantastic save from Cameron Castle (Fort Collins, Colo.) kept the score at 11's. Castle nailed a successful clear and a Molander shot was saved with one tick left.
LMC won the overtime face off and claimed the win after Molander scored his 35th goal of the season.
Castle made seven saves in 31:15 while Jordan Lombardo (York, Pa.) made nine in 30:00.
EC's Troutman accumulated 29 saves.
Junior Louis Parks (Mays Landing, N.J.) scooped five groundballs and had five shots.
Quinn paced the Bobcats with six groundballs and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the center "X".
