Record-Breaking Performances spark LMC to a 20-6 victory at Montreat Tuesday

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Dane Carney and the Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team broke a couple program records Tuesday afternoon at Montreat College. Carney scored four goals against the Cavaliers and he is now the career leader in that category for LMC with 178 goals. Because of the play of Carney and the rest of the Bobcats, LMC went on to defeat Montreat by a score of 20-6 to pick up their first win of the season. The 20 goals scored marked the most goals ever scored by LMC in a single game in program history.

The Cavaliers scored the first goal of the game, but LMC scored five of the next six goals to take a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. The difference in Tuesday's game, however, was the 11 goals scored by Lees-McRae in the second quarter. The two teams both scored twice in the third and fourth quarters to wrap up the game with the score at 20-6.

Carney totaled seven points Tuesday with four goals and three points. Sophomore Alec Molander also posted a seven-point day with five goals and two assists. Blaine Stottlar and Wyatt Daziel both added three goals each for LMC as well. Zach Fagan, Ryan Beauchamp, Tanner Jones, Christopher Lamay and Cole Wyatt all added goals for Lees-McRae too.

In net, Cameron Castle notched his first win of the season after making three saves on five attempts in 30 minutes of action. Castle's record improves to 1-2 with the win. Freshman Devon Wolf also saw 30 minutes of playing time in net for LMC Tuesday. Wolf made four saves in eight attempts in his outing.

LMC, now 1-2 on the season, will return to the field Feb. 28 when they travel to take on nationally-ranked Limestone. The Saints, who were ranked No. 2 in the USILA/Nike Coaches Poll on Monday, and Bobcats will get underway at 7 p.m. from Gaffney, S.C.
