BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team will open its 2019 season this Saturday with a trip to Mars Hill University. First face-off between the Bobcats and Lions is scheduled for 1 p.m. Stat and video links for Saturday's contest can be found at lmcbobcats.com.

2018 look back – The Bobcats posted a record of 2-7 overall and 1-5 in conference action last season. Lees-McRae is set to return 10 players from last season's squad, while adding 12 newcomers to the mix for the 2019 campaign.

Preseason prognostication – Lees-McRae was picked to finish sixth in the annual Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll last month. Additionally, the trio of Alec Molander, Cameron Castle and Luke Strong were named players to watch for Lees-McRae this spring.

Nearing a program record – In addition to be named a player to watch for the team in 2019, Molander is nearing some program history as he enters his senior season. The Victoria, British Columbia native needs just 11 more goals to break the program's all-time goal scoring record. Currently, Lees-McRae's all-time leading scorer is former Bobcat Dane Carney who racked up 118 goals during his time with the program.

About the opponent – Much like Lees-McRae, Saturday's contest will be the season opener for Mars Hill. The Lions were picked to finish eighth in the South Atlantic Conference's (SAC) Preseason Poll with defenseman Kyle Dozzi named to the Preseason All-SAC Second Team. MHU will be under leadership this spring as former Limestone assistant Brendan Storrier takes the reins of a program that went 2-12 in 2018.

Series history vs. opponent – Lees-McRae and Mars Hill have matched up several times over the years. There have been a total of 15 meetings between the Bobcats and Lions since 1999. MHU has won 14 of the 15 games with Lees-McRae's lone victory coming in 2003 by a final score of 7-6.
