BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team will be back in action this Saturday when it travels to Tusculum University. First face-off between the Bobcats and Pioneers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Last time out – Lees-McRae dropped its season opener on the road at Mars Hill last Saturday, 19-18. The Bobcats saw seven of their players tally at least one point against the Lions.
Scoring stat – The 18-goal effort put forth by the Bobcats marks the second-most goals in a game in the history of the program. The school record for goals in a game is 20, which the Bobcats have accomplished on three different occasions. All of these performances have occurred within the past three seasons.
Molander nears record – Six of Lees-McRae's 18 goals came courtesy of senior attackman Alec Molander. With that six-goal effort, Molander now needs just five more goals to become the program's all-time leading goal scorer surpassing former teammate Dane Carney, who had 118 goals during his career in the Green and Gold.
About Tusculum – Just like the Bobcats, Tusculum comes into Saturday's game sporting a 0-1 record on the young season. The Pioneers fell to No. 14 Limestone last weekend by a score of 22-2. Tusculum, which finished 2018 with a record of 4-9, was picked to finish sixth in the nine team South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Preseason Poll late last month.
Series history vs. Tusculum – Despite being separated by less than 75 miles, Lees-McRae and Tusculum have met just once previously in men's lacrosse. That matchup occurred in 2014 and the Pioneers came out on top in that meeting, 23-6.
