BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team will open its home schedule on Saturday by hosting Wilmington (Del.) University on the campus of Watauga High School in Boone, North Carolina. First-face-off between the Wildcats and Bobcats is set for noon.
Last time out – Lees-McRae picked up its first victory of the 2019 season last Friday by defeating Montreat College by a score of 24-4. The win pushes Lees-McRae's record on the young season to 1-2.
Lighting up the scoreboard – The 24 goals scored by the Bobcats were not only the most in a game in 2019 but also the most the team has ever scored in a single game in the history of the program. Additionally, the Bobcats also set/broke program records in largest winning margin (20 goals) and points in a game (39) against the Cavaliers.
Senior spotlight – A major part in that huge offensive performance was senior Alec Molander. Molander scored a program-record 13 points (8g, 5a) in the victory. With those eight goals, Molander became the program's all-time leading goal scorer with 122. Molander is now the program's all-time leader in goals, assists and points.
Sophomore stepping up - Sophomore Craig Barr has seen a significant rise in his offensive output so far in 2019. Barr has already netted 11 goals this season, which ranks fifth in the conference. Furthermore, Barr has nearly matched his goal total from last season after scoring 13 goals as a freshman.
About Wilmington – Wilmington is in just its second season as a men's lacrosse program. The Wildcats won four games in their inaugural campaign, and they are off to a good start in year two after defeating Montreat 14-10 on Thursday.
