BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team started well against No. 15 Lindenwood University Thursday afternoon at Tate Field, but the Lions would rebound to down the Bobcats by a score of 19-8. The loss moves Lees-McRae's record to 3-7 on the season.
After the 15th-ranked Lions netted the game's first goal less than two minutes in, the Bobcats rattled off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Not to be outdone though, the Lions would score five more times before the first quarter was out to regain the lead, 6-3.
Following a somewhat even second quarter where Lindenwood outscored Lees-McRae, 3-2, the Lions finally gained substantial separation from the Bobcats in the third quarter. Lindenwood went on to score four times in the first five minutes of the third quarter and six times overall to gain a 15-6 advantage on the Bobcats heading to the fourth quarter. The Lions would grow their lead to as many as 11 goals in the fourth quarter, which proved to be the final winning margin, 19-8.
Senior attackman Alec Molander paced the Bobcats on the scoreboard Thursday scoring three of the team's eight goals in the contest to go along with two assists. Jackson Galloway netted a pair of goals of his own to bring his season goal total to 12. Rounding out the goal scorers for Lees-McRae on Thursday were Ryan Beauchamp, Craig Barr and Jack Callahan.
Cameron Castle took the loss in goal for the Bobcats despite stopping a season-high 19 shots against the Lions. It's the most saves in a game for Castle since April 14, 2017 where he stopped 20 shots in a contest against Chowan.
The Bobcats will have a relatively short turnaround as they will be back in action Saturday afternoon against Alderson Broaddus. Prior to the game, the Bobcats will honor their three seniors on this season's team: Alec Molander, Cameron Castle and Tristan Hashemi. First face-off between the Bobcats and Battlers is set for noon.
